Memorial Weekend

It was a nice break to go on a drive to Cove Fort and Fremont Indian State Park.  Thank you Scott for taking me even though we left in a torrential downpour and 30 mph winds.  Luckily it wasn't raining at our destination and we got to tour the museum and hike.  A very large Fremont village was discovered here when they built I-70.  They had to excavate and collect as much as they could before they leveled the hill and the sites.  We enjoyed the rock art.
Petroglyphs with lots of desert big horn sheep

More recent Ute/Paiute Petroglyphs

Celeste is a mount goat herself.  She lead the climb up the hill.

Can you see the petroglyph behind us?

Columner basalt

Looking East from the Park

I reached my camera behind the gate to take this.

You can see this rock art by looking in a mirror mounted on the opposite wall.

Checking out the mirror

Telephoto of the "Blanket" pictograph.  The heart warming legend was of a mother painting this blanket near the burial of her child to symbolically keep him warm.

Painting and Carving

Knock, knock.  Who's there?

It was surprisingly cozy in this reconstructed pithouse.

Looking out of the pithouse and feeling some rain drops.

Inside the pithouse.

Popping out.

Annie's 1 year B-day party

She ate her cake, worked hard to open her gifts, and was a very happy little gal even with all of the visitors.

Here are some pictures of Cove Fort, built in 1860-something.  I didn't have my camera, so these are borrowed from the internet.  Celeste was very patient during the long tour.  It was fun to see blankets and other things made in the 1850's.

We finished the weekend with a yummy grilled dinner sponsored by Scott's parents.
