To Utah and Back Again

It was birthday time for cousin Autumn and grammy, so we Celebrated in Utah. Here are some pics that I borrowed from other people's blogs.

Celestial Statistics

Celeste is talking more and more all the time. I LOVE that I can ask her if she wants something and she can tell me yes or no.

Some kids get jealous when their parents hug each other. NOT Celeste. Today she pushed Scott's and my head together to make us kiss. Then she laughed and did it several more times. It was so cute. She gave lots of hugs and kisses out at my Mom's b-day party tonight.

Celeste and I learned the hard way that not all kids are nice. A little girl came from out of no-where and pulled C.'s hair at the playground. I yelled at the girl. C. was traumatized and I was shocked that something like that could happen. So when she got calmed down we headed to the zoo instead and had a talk about it.

Today during our walk, a school bus drove by and C. started singing and doing the actions "round and round, round and round" from the Wheels on the bus song. On the green belt there is a yard full of animal statues (bears, eagle, bison) and C. always sings Old McDonald had a Farm when we go by it.

I see no need to hurry Celeste into potty training because she is still really young. However, she may get there sooner than later. Several times C. has said "peepee, potty", and we set her on the training potty, and she's gone. She is so smart.

Whenever C. hears Scott singing around the house she tells me "singing, singing". Sometimes when I sing slow songs she dances in circles.

Recent sayings:
"Come on, mommy, come on." (when she wants me to go with her)

"8, 9, 10, 11, 12" (said this two different times yesterday)

Conversation:
Me: "Do you want some of this oatmeal?"
Celeste: (shaking head vigorously) "No way, no way, no way!"

"Penguin"
"Hiding" (Goes into her closet and shuts doors)
"Tail" (referring to the tail of her stuffed animal)

Favorite Shows:
#1 Sesame Street (Abby Cadabby, Elmo, and the Count are her favorites.)
#2 Wiggly Safari (Australian show for kids, this one has lots of animals)
#3 Cinderella (likes the mice and cat)
#4 Tinkerbell

Adventures in Archeology

We put on our walking shoes and hiked to a Shoshone rock art site in the Birch Creek valley. It was a beautiful day. We got permission from a rancher to cross his land to see it. Ancestors of the Shoshone Indians traveled through this valley frequently. They camped, hunted, and painted some interesting pictures on the rocks here.

This is my great grandpa Pehrson sitting in front of the same rock art panel in 1930. We didn't make the connection until after we got home and compared photographs. Amazing!

Did you see this one? Pictographs were often done with mineral or plant materials or a combination. Sometimes animal fat was used in the paints.

This was a rare opportunity so we took a lot of pictures.

The grass was pretty tall in some spots. C. found some good rocks.

I think I can fit in this crack.

Grammy Goose

Further up the valley we found the old mining ghost town of Gilmore. There are many lead/silver mines in this area. We drove through it on the way to go fishing/picnicking at Meadow Lake.
